This statement explains how the Cambridge University Gliding Club (“we”, “us”and “our”) handles and uses the personal information we collect about ourmembers and people signed up for trial flights for processes relating to ouroperations and activities. When changes are made to this statement, we willpublish the updated version on our website and also email you about specificchanges.

The controller for your personal information is you. The person responsible fordata protection within our society is the Webmaster, who can be contacted atmailto:[email protected].

How we use your personal information

We collect and process your personal information for a number of purposes,including:

  1. Evidencing your membership
  2. Having adequate medical and emergency contacts available in the event of aninjury or incident
  3. For insurance purposes
  4. For purposes incidental to your affiliation as may be necessary to take partin club activities (eg.: emailing of notices or events)

How we share your personal information

  • We share some of your personal information with the University, only wherethere is a specific need to, including for registration as a University SportsClub, and to provide your blues and sporting records for your Universityrecords.

  • We share some of your personal information with Cambridge Gliding Centre forthe purposes of evidence of membership, insurance and emergency & medicalinformation (further details on howCGC and theBGA handle data can be foundhere).

  • We use University IT facilities to store electronic copies of personalinformation.

  • We may share your personal information with certain organisations overseas,including the British Gliding Association, as part of arrangements related toyour membership of the club. In such cases, we will ask for your explicitconsent prior to transmitting this information.

    We may also be subject to a legal requirement (with or without your consent)to share your personal information with the University or a governmentagency (such as the police or security services or other statutoryauthorities with investigatory powers) under special circumstances (e.g.relating to tax, crime or health and safety). Where feasible andappropriate, we will notify you of our intention to share such informationin advance.
